  • Children & Young People’s Service

For children & young people affected by cancer.

At Cavendish Cancer Care, we understand that a diagnosis of cancer affects the whole family. Our Children & Young People’s Service offers specialist emotional and therapeutic support for those aged 4 to 18, whether they are living with cancer themselves, coping with a diagnosis in the family, or grieving the loss of a loved one.

We work with children and families primarily across South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire, creating a safe and nurturing space where young people can express their feelings, make sense of their experiences, and begin to move forward with their lives.

    Tailored, Professional Support

Our team of highly qualified therapists brings expertise in:
    • Counselling & Psychotherapy
    • Art Therapy
    • Non-Directive Play Therapy
    • Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy

With a strong foundation in child development, attachment theory, and developmental trauma, our therapists tailor their approach to meet each child’s unique needs. We also offer guidance and support for parents and carers, helping the whole family feel more confident and connected.

    What to Expect

We offer short-term therapeutic support — up to ten sessions in total. This includes:
    • An initial consultation with a parent or carer
    • A series of one-to-one sessions with the young person
    • A final review meeting to reflect on progress and next steps

Where appropriate, we may also offer joint sessions for children and their parent or carer.

Whether you’re a young person facing the challenges of cancer, or a parent looking for support, our team is here to help — with empathy, experience, and care.

If you are looking for support please leave your details on the form below (scroll down for form) or if you are unable to do this please call us or email info@cavcare.org.uk.
